{"id":10740,"date":"2020-10-02T19:48:57","date_gmt":"2020-10-02T12:48:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/54.151.235.32\/?p=10740"},"modified":"2021-03-03T18:00:24","modified_gmt":"2021-03-03T11:00:24","slug":"2020-gartner-magic-quadrant-cloud-infrastructure-platform-services","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/renovacloud.com\/en\/2020-gartner-magic-quadrant-cloud-infrastructure-platform-services\/","title":{"rendered":"2020 Gartner Magic Quadrant &#8211; Cloud Infrastructure &amp; Platform Services"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Published <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gartner.com\/en\" rel=\"noopener\">Gartner<\/a>,\u00a0 the 2020 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Cloud Infrastructure and Platform Services provides unique insights into the globe\u2019s top providers of cloud offerings.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>1.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><strong><u>New update<\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The 2020 Magic Quadrant has undergone some updates compared to last year\u2019s \u201cMagic Quadrant for Cloud Infrastructure as a Service.\u201d Following with the evolution of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bmc.com\/blogs\/public-private-hybrid-cloud\/\" rel=\"noopener\">cloud services<\/a>, Gartner noted it was necessary to include not only hyper scale cloud providers, but also the broad range of services beyond cloud infrastructure as a service that they offer.<\/p>\n<p>The vendors considered in the 2020 Magic Quadrant include both\u00a0IaaS and integrated platform as a service (PaaS) platforms, such as<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Database PaaS (dbPaaS)<\/li>\n<li>Application PaaS (aPaaS)<\/li>\n<li>Application developer PaaS (adPaaS)<\/li>\n<li>Functions as a service (FaaS)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>2.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><strong><u>Criteria to be qualified under Cloud Infrastructure and Platform Services<\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>In order to qualify for inclusion in this quadrant, vendors must:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Sell public cloud IaaS as a service<\/li>\n<li>Be a top global provider for the relevant segments<\/li>\n<li>Offer the public cloud IaaS service globally<\/li>\n<li>Offer the public cloud IaaS and PaaS services that is suitable for supporting mission-critical, large-scale production workloads<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>Magic Quadrant for Cloud Infrastructure and Platform Services 2020<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-10745 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/renovacloud.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/CIPS_MQ_transparent-300x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"426\" height=\"426\" \/>3.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><strong><u>2020 Results <\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The Magic Quadrant is composed of 4 categories:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Leaders:<\/strong>Innovative giants in the industry that successfully execute their vision.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Challengers:<\/strong>Companies that dominate a large market segment.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Visionaries:<\/strong>Providers that have a strong vision for the future market.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Niche Players:<\/strong>Those providers hyper-focused on a small segment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For a better overview and understanding of the evolution, let\u2019s compare last year\u2019s Magic Quadrant to this year\u2019s 2020 results:<\/p>\n<h3><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-10743 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/renovacloud.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Screen-Shot-2020-10-01-at-2.14.07-PM-1-300x261.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"407\" height=\"354\" \/><\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3><strong>4.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><strong><u>Leaders<\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Although the three main vendors remained consistent in the Leaders Quadrant from 2019 to 2020, their positions within this quadrant shifted slightly.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Amazon Web Services<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With a commanding lead this year,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bmc.com\/blogs\/aws-serverless-applications\/\" rel=\"noopener\">AWS<\/a>\u00a0is cementing its place as a strong candidate for edge use and hybrid cloud cases. AWS has:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The largest share of the worldwide market in both database PaaS offerings as well as IaaS offerings<\/li>\n<li>The resources and skills to deliver their complete solutions from end-to-end<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Generating more than 50% of Amazon\u2019s operating income, it\u2019s no wonder AWS is referred to as a supreme leader.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Microsoft<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Next up but not far behind in the Leaders category is Microsoft.\u00a0<u>Microsoft Azure<\/u>\u00a0provides a complete set of end-to-end solutions that address a varying of applications and workloads, perfectly suited for organizations that are already Microsoft-centric. The tech giant leads the hyperscale cloud providers in the application developer PaaS segment, focusing on open-source software with tools like GitHub and Azure DevOps. Microsoft will continue to be a strong competitor to AWS, especially with its efforts to strengthen solutions for containers, serverless, and hybrid environments.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Google<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Rounding out the Leader category is Google, known for its open-source contributions\u00a0<u>TensorFlow<\/u>\u00a0and\u00a0<u>Kubernetes<\/u>\u00a0that have completely changed the course of enterprise IT. Enhancing its partnerships with telco providers while building out its hybrid capabilities, Google has seen a major increase in its market share of dbPaaS and IaaS with its Google Cloud Platform (GCP).<\/p>\n<p>With GCP\u2019s exploration into new territory with <a href=\"https:\/\/renovacloud.com\/dich-vu-google-cloud-anthos-nay-da-mo-rong-ho-tro-tren-aws\/\">Anthos<\/a>, Google\u2019s container and Kubernetes-based middleware layer, it appears that the small gap between GCP and Microsoft Azure will continue to shrink.<\/p>\n<p><strong>New Addition: Tencent<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Jumping on the quadrant this year is newcomer Tencent Cloud. Mainly focused on segments in China, Tencent Cloud has expertise in social networking, gaming, and digital e-commerce, with a big focus on gaming companies worldwide. With a larger global IaaS market share than Oracle and IBM, Tencent Cloud has the technical know-how to quickly become a major competitor to its closest domestic challenger, Alibaba Cloud.
